FAQs
How does hair loss treatment work?
Our clinics in London use the FUE technique. This is a minimally invasive procedure that involves removing individual hairs from (usually) the back of the head, before transplanting them into areas of the scalp that are balding or thinning.
Can FUE be administered on all types of hair?
The produce is more effective for one type of hair, straight hair, than for any others. Whilst it is possible to have a hair transplant with curly hair, it is more difficult as the donor hair follicles are more susceptible to damage when they are removed.
It’s also important to note that FUE is not just for the head, it can be used to restore hair growth in thinning beards, body hair or for eyebrow transplants.
Is a hair transplant London painful?
The hair transplant London process is usually not painful. The area is numb with anaesthetic cream before the procedure. You are awake, but you shouldn’t feel any pain. There might be some mild discomfort for the 48 hours after the procedure, but this will gradually subside.
What is the healing process like?
The healing process will vary from person to person, but to give you a general idea:
- In the first week there will be redness, swelling and scabbing in the treated area (where the transplanted hair has been implanted). The follicles will crust over and some hair may fall out.
- By three weeks the redness and irritation should have reduced.
- Up until three months you still might not have noticed any change, or, you might have noticed hair still falling out.
- From three to six months is when the initial growth period begins, then by month nine you should see more substantial results.
- After 12 months patients will see about 90% of their hair regrowth.
How can I aid the recovery process?
There are a few things you can do while your body recovers from the procedure:
- Take a week off to rest and recover.
- Don’t smoke or drink alcohol for a couple of weeks after.
- Avoid medications that impact blood flow.
- Use cold compresses on your head to reduce redness and swelling.
- Avoid touching the new, implanted hair for at least four days.
How long will hair transplant London results last?
A hair transplant London is generally considered a permanent solution. However, hair loss can still occur in other areas of the scalp or treated areas.
Do the results look natural?
Yes, the results of a hair transplant London look incredibly natural. The new hair is your own hair, and the hair removed from the donor area will grow back, so the end result is very natural. It’s important, though, that a skilled surgeon completes the procedure so you can ensure you will end up with the best outcome.
Can FUE be done on anyone?
Unfortunately not. FUE is only suitable for people who are experiencing permanent hair loss, like hereditary hair loss. The procedure cannot be used to treat alopecia or other sudden hair loss causes.
You will also need good hair density in the donor area. If you have low density, it is unlikely a reputable surgeon will complete the procedure.
